Santa Cruz Mountains
A portion of the University is located on the lower, eastern flank of the Santa Cruz Mountains. This area is located outside the area covered by the Stanford HCP. The majority of this landform at Stanford is located in the Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve 'Ootchamin 'Ooyakma. The 1,200-acre Preserve is an academic research and teaching facility that is extensively used by students and researchers. The Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve 'Ootchamin 'Ooyakma was designated a research facility by the trustees of Stanford University, and no public access is allowed, but docent-led tours are available. Other land uses in this region include residential development, a vineyard, and equestrian facilities. Searsville Reservoir is located in the Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve 'Ootchamin 'Ooyakma and is managed by the University's Facilities and Operations department in coordination with the Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve 'Ootchamin 'Ooyakma.
