Alluvial Plain
Main content start
Stanford’s main academic facilities are located on the broad alluvial plain between the foothills and San Francisco Bay. North of Junipero Serra Boulevard (Foothill Expressway), Stanford’s lands are developed with housing, academic buildings, and commercial development (the Stanford Research Park and Stanford Shopping Center). The alluvial plain areas south of Junipero Serra Boulevard are smaller in extent, closely following the stream courses. These areas support agricultural uses, including row crops, a commercial (wholesale) nursery, and livestock (equestrian) uses scattered across most of the remaining areas. A few academic facilities are in these southern alluvial plain areas (a plant genetics laboratory and a plant growth facility).
