Diversity and Inclusion Fellow

Current Diversity and Inclusion Fellow

The Diversity and Inclusion Fellow researches why diversity and inclusion goals fail within conservation and environmental science organizations and makes recommendations to increase diversity and inclusion within the Stanford Conservation Program and the broader community.

Our 2019-2020 Diversity and Inclusion Fellow is Julia Simon. Julia is a sophomore at Stanford from New Orleans, Louisiana. Julia volunteered as a junior zoo keeper at Audubon Zoo for five years where she developed her passion for conservation. At Stanford, Julia serves as a docent at the Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve, providing field-based education to community members. She is excited to continue exploring environmental education as the Diversity and Inclusion fellow this year, working to engage underrepresented minorities in conservation biology and ecology.

Julia plans to major in Chemical Engineering with a focus on coastal ecosystems with the aim to one day find a career in wetlands restoration and remediation. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, golfing, and writing.
